The Terrebonne Parish Bayou Clean-Up will be held on March 19, 2016 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The Wetlands Discovery Center is proud to be organizing this event with the help of other nonprofit organizations, government agencies, parish officials, schools, churches, large corporations, restaurants, small businesses and families. Volunteers will pick up trash from our bayous in boats, pirogues, canoes, kayaks, and on foot.
Clean up locations include Bayou Terrebonne in the Downtown Houma/Mall Area (small boats); Bayou Terrebonne south of the Intracoastal in Houma; Bayou Black at the Bayou Black Marina; and Bayou Petit Caillou in Chauvin (Terrebonne Advocates for Possibility, Bayou Grace Community Services, Inc., Keep Terrebonne Beautiful). We will also have volunteers on foot helping to clean North Hollywood Road and St. Louis Canal Road near Lake Houmas.
The Clean-Up will end with a volunteer thank you celebration including live music, food and drinks.
Please call the Wetlands Discovery Center at (985) 580-7289 if you have access to a boat and would like to help to clean our waterways. Gloves, trash bags, grabbers and rakes will be provided to volunteers collecting trash.
The Terrebonne Parish Bayou Clean-up is made possible by a Keep Louisiana Beautiful Healthy Community Grant.
About South Louisiana Wetlands Discovery Center
The South Louisiana Wetlands Discovery Center (SLWDC) is revolutionizing how we think, teach and learn about Louisiana’s disappearing coast. It achieves this mission through a range of programs in policy, science, technology, engineering and math. These programs work to inspire our next generation of leaders to develop innovative ways to communicate, respond and adapt to the changing landscape of our region. SLWDC partners with federal, state and local agencies, as well as other nonprofit organizations and the private sector, to explain both the science and politics of coastal restoration
